Her Interview
Ten minutes with Sheena
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to consistent hard work, discipline, and a strong commitment to growth. I believe that meaningful progress is never immediate and that success is earned through dedication, perseverance, and daily effort. I have learned that opportunities are not simply given they are built over time through persistence, accountability, and a willingness to continuously improve.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've ever received was to learn how to pivot. Learn how to pivot in every aspect, whether it's a task, your job, applying for another job, an outside job, anything in your life, but you have to learn how to pivot. Things aren't always gonna go the way that you would like for them to go, or how you planned them. You should always be able to pivot.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering this industry is to avoid limiting yourself or allowing others to define your potential. You are fully capable of achieving anything you set your mind to, and your growth should not be confined by expectations or perceptions. Stay confident in your abilities, remain open to learning, and pursue opportunities that challenge and expand your skills.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest opportunities in my field is the continued growth of strong, diverse leadership within banking and financial services, particularly the increasing presence of accomplished women in leadership roles. It is encouraging to work in an environment at Capital One where collaboration, mentorship, and support among women are actively present and valued. At the same time, the industry remains traditionally male-dominated, which presents ongoing challenges in terms of representation and breaking long-standing perceptions. However, this also creates an opportunity to contribute to meaningful change by supporting inclusive leadership, fostering professional development, and helping build a more balanced and supportive workplace culture.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me in both my work and personal life are maintaining a healthy work-life balance, building strong relationships, and fostering an environment rooted in trust and open communication. I believe in working hard and being fully committed to my responsibilities, while also making space to enjoy the results of that effort and prioritize personal well-being. In the workplace, I value a sense of connection and teamwork, where colleagues support one another and operate like a family. Trust and clear communication are essential to me, as they create a positive, collaborative environment where people can thrive both professionally and personally.
