Sheila Goodwin
I founded Right Side of 50 in 2017, driven by a lifelong passion to help and assist other women. Ever since I was young, I've had this characteristic that draws people to me, where they find it easy to open up and talk to me, whether I'm giving information to help them or just giving them that listening ear. I've always found myself there for others. As I got older and went through my own experiences, I started thinking of being able to do this as a business. My group meets once a month, and throughout the years, the numbers have fluctuated, going up and down. With that happening, I've changed the details of the company, made it more broad, and I'm trying to bring it more out there to women in business. I feel that we women who show up every day in business are forgotten about because we show up strong with that smile, but no one knows what's behind that smile. So I'm shifting and changing the way I run the operation. While working full-time, I dedicate my free time to finding new ideas and new adventures for the women to take on, just different things for us to do. What I love most about the work I do is the people I'm meeting and knowing that a job is completed before I even leave.

What do you attribute your success to?
Holding on to faith. Throughout my journey, especially when I was completing my bachelor's degree between 2013 and 2017 while going through a divorce, I held on to faith. I stuck through it and said I'll rise above this, because once again, I knew my kids were watching. Faith has been the key factor that has carried me through all the challenges I've faced.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Be strong. Be powerful. Be you. That's the one line I would give to young women just getting started with this kind of work or their own nonprofit. These three simple but powerful principles have guided me, and I believe they're essential for any woman entering this field.
