About Sheila
Sheila Jenkinson is a podcast host, travel influencer, public speaker, and former radio personality dedicated to celebrating the people, businesses, and communities that make small-town America thrive. As the owner and host of the Growing Small Town Nebraska Podcast, which she launched in 2022, she produces an average of seven episodes each month featuring Nebraska tourism, local entrepreneurs, community revitalization efforts, and travel destinations across the United States. Drawing on more than a decade of experience in radio broadcasting, Sheila combines compelling storytelling with genuine curiosity to share positive, engaging narratives that inspire both residents and visitors to explore the unique character of rural communities.
Before establishing her successful podcast, Sheila built a respected career in communications that included over 12 years as an on-air personality with a country radio station, freelance copyediting, public relations, and career education. She earned a Bachelor's degree in Communications/Broadcast Media from Dana College, providing the foundation for her expertise in interviewing, broadcasting, and public speaking. In addition to her podcasting work, she continues to expand her skills through American Sign Language studies and remains actively involved in community theater, reflecting her commitment to lifelong learning and community engagement.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to collaboration, strong professional relationships, and being open to opportunities. Building a strong network has helped me grow throughout my career, and entering the field at the right time allowed me to take advantage of opportunities as the industry evolved.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received is that I have something valuable to offer. Believing in my skills and perspective has given me the confidence to contribute, pursue opportunities, and make a meaningful impact.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Trust in the value of what you know, because no one else has your unique perspective and experience. Be confident, know when to say no, stay alert to new opportunities, and always be selective in your decisions while treating others with kindness and respect.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in my field is managing the growing pains of running a one-woman business. Finding enough time to meet client needs while maintaining a healthy work-life balance is an ongoing challenge, but it also presents an opportunity to build more sustainable systems and grow strategically.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Honesty is the value I hold above all else, both professionally and personally. I also believe in recognizing that everyone has their own unique value, and treating others with understanding, respect, and appreciation for the perspectives they bring.
