Sheka Houston, Ed.D.
Dr. Sheka Houston is a passionate educator, author, and coach dedicated to transforming K-12 education through meaningful relationships, leadership development, and innovative interventions. She co-founded Create and Educate, LLC, a consulting and literary firm that provides professional development for schools, leaders, and independent authors, equipping them to navigate partnerships with public schools and enhance the educational experience for students. Her work emphasizes building safe, supportive environments where children can thrive academically and personally.
With over two decades of experience in educational leadership, Sheka has served as a school principal, assistant principal, and director of secondary interventions within Chester County School District in South Carolina. She is committed to implementing frameworks such as REALL—Respect, Excellence, Accountability, Literacy, and Leadership—to cultivate resilience and empowerment in students, educators, and parents alike. Through her collaborative approach, she works closely with teachers, administrators, and families to create systems that foster equity, engagement, and success for all learners.
In addition to her educational leadership, Sheka has an accomplished background in writing and journalism, having contributed to major publications including Forbes, The LA Times, The Boston Globe, and The Guardian. Her expertise extends to training, coaching, and consulting writers, educators, and school leaders to amplify their impact. Sheka holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Administration from Gardner-Webb University and a Master’s in Education from Columbia College (SC), combining academic rigor with practical, hands-on experience to make a lasting difference in education.

The values most important to me are faith, family, community, and supporting others, while cherishing quality time with my two kids through activities like movies, skating, traveling, bowling, and exploring the arts.
