Her Story
About Shelbie
I'm a senior talent acquisition partner with Allied Solutions, a financial services provider, where I lead our college and internship program. I work with a variety of different departments to hire their interns, but I also build out workshops for the interns, professional development opportunities, and volunteer opportunities. I've been in talent acquisition for over 10 years now, and throughout my career, I've worked in healthcare, real estate, an ed tech startup, and IT consulting. Most of the jobs I've been in, I was the first talent acquisition person to be hired on, and I built out those talent programs for those companies - building out best practices, metrics, dashboards, and implementing technologies. That's what the bulk of my career has been doing. My main area of expertise is program management within talent acquisition, whether that is a talent program in itself or a college recruiting program. I'm really big on data analytics in TA, really looking at the numbers and seeing how they can support talent acquisition and paint a story of what is happening in the market. During campus recruiting season, I'm often out at colleges, networking with faculty, staff, and students, going to networking events and career fairs. When it's not college recruiting season, I support departments with their full-time hiring, filling some of those roles, and being a liaison for our different vendors we work with. One of my most notable achievements was when I was at Trinitas Ventures, where I built out their talent acquisition program. Before I started, they had primarily utilized third-party agencies for recruiting, and the year before I came, they had spent over a million dollars on agency recruiting. We were able to cut that spending by $700,000 when I joined the company.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Shelbie
01What do you attribute your success to?
I would say I've had very supportive leaders in every company I've worked in, which is always a huge contribution to someone's success, I think - the people around them. Also, I think just my morals and values. I have a very strong work ethic and am very loyal to the people I'm working with and supporting.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
I would say just always be forward-thinking. One thing I heard early in my career was, the worst thing you can hear is, well, we've just always done it that way, and that's something that's always stuck with me. I try to be very innovative and forward-thinking in my practice and the work I do, and so I really look for that in companies I work for as well.
