Her Story
About Shelby
Shelby Callison serves as Director of Marketing and Operations at Primo Yachts, where she builds brands that resonate with clients, brokers high-stakes deals, and acts as a right hand to yacht brokers to ensure deals are completed. She bridges high-level brand management with operational demands in the yacht sales marine industry. Callison has spent seven years in the industry, drawing on a ten-year background in fishing and prior employment with the Viking Marine Group, which builds Viking yachts. Her education includes an agricultural business major in college, though she credits her field experience, networking through fishing tournaments, and competitive nature for much of her professional success. As a competitive billfish angler, she has gained credibility in the male-dominated field, including being the first female to drive a boat in a Sportsman Boats photo shoot. Callison advises never stopping learning and adapting, and encourages young women entering the industry to be confident and unafraid of failure.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've ever received is never stop learning and adapting.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Don't be afraid to be confident and don't be afraid to fail because every failure is one step closer to a win. It's a really male-dominated industry, and young women coming into it, there's a lot of glass ceilings to break, and having that confidence is really important.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
It's a very male-dominated field. Earning respect in the room is always a challenge, and being able to establish authority without being overpowering is tough in high-stakes conversations. Also, how can you show up better every day and build something that gets the eye of the consumer and offers a competitive advantage.
