Her Story
About Shelia
I've been in my field for about 20 to 25 years now. I came in fresh out of school, just really interested in product testing, and that's how I stumbled across UL through a student friend of mine. My main area of expertise today is regulatory compliance, and a typical day for me involves mitigating compliance issues for my company's products. I'd say my most notable professional achievement so far has been transitioning from being a compliance handler at a third-party agency to bringing those talents to our manufacturing environment. What really inspired me to get into this field is the idea of making the world a safer place - it starts with one product at a time. I've been exposed to so many standards agencies like THTA and ANSI. Sometimes you don't have to be a member, but just the exposure to it starts with a meeting here, and then next thing you know, you're fully engrossed in it.

Never be loud and wrong. That's what my mentor told me my first week on my first professional job. She said, you're never loud and wrong. That advice has really stuck with me throughout my career.
