Ten minutes with Sheliza

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to perseverance, discipline, and a strong determination to keep growing. Throughout my journey, I have balanced being a full-time manager, a full-time student, a wife, and a devoted mother, while continuing to pursue my professional and personal goals.

I also embraced entrepreneurship by creating Prince Caribbean Kitchen, a seasonal food business that allows me to share authentic Guyanese cuisine and celebrate my culture within my community. It represents not only my passion for food, but also my desire to preserve my heritage and bring people together.

I believe my success comes from never placing limits on what I can accomplish. Balancing my career, education, family, and entrepreneurship has strengthened my resilience, leadership, and determination to continue building a future I am proud of.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve ever received is to never become too comfortable always keep learning, growing, and preparing for the next opportunity. I’ve learned that success is not only about where you are today, but about having the courage to keep pushing yourself toward where you want to be. I carry that mindset with me in my career, my education, and everything I pursue.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering the finance industry is to be confident, know your worth, and never be afraid to take up space in rooms where you may be underestimated. Continue educating yourself, ask questions, build strong relationships, and learn from every opportunity.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in the financial services industry is keeping pace with rapidly changing technology while maintaining the trust and personal connection clients expect. At the same time, these changes create tremendous opportunities for professionals who are willing to learn, adapt, and grow.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Integrity, family, hard work, and perseverance are the values that guide me both personally and professionally. I believe in treating people with respect, being accountable for my actions, and giving my best in everything I do. Above all, I want my actions to reflect the kind of woman, leader, and role model I strive to be.
