Shelly Beckmann is a Financial Advisor with Northwestern Mutual, where she focuses on helping individuals and families build comprehensive financial strategies. Her work centers on financial planning that integrates wealth accumulation, risk management, retirement preparation, and legacy planning. She is known for her client-first approach, guiding people through major life transitions such as new careers, marriage, and expanding families with structured and personalized financial plans.
Before entering the financial services industry, Shelly’s career path included a diverse range of experiences that shaped her practical and people-centered approach. She previously worked in a retirement community providing hair services, owned and operated a salon, and pursued cosmetology training at Kaskaskia College after earlier academic and professional shifts. She also earned a teaching degree from Greenville University and briefly worked in education before economic conditions following the 2008 market downturn influenced her career direction.
Shelly’s transition into financial advising in 2022 followed significant personal and professional turning points, including the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the loss of her grandmother. These experiences deepened her focus on helping others plan for uncertainty and long-term security. Today, she brings resilience, adaptability, and empathy into her practice, emphasizing holistic financial planning and encouraging clients to build confidence through intentional, well-structured financial decisions.

Being able to shift with each life change and becoming better each time. Every challenge I've been hit with, I've shifted and become better.

Always strive to be better, always strive to learn, be open to change and it's never too late.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Be willing to fight for it and never let anyone put limits on you and don't put limits on yourself.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge is not being informed enough and failing to educate yourself continuously. The biggest opportunity is the versatility of the financial world where you can pick a niche and go with it.
