Her Interview
Ten minutes with Shelly
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to determination. I don't give up very easily. I'm a very determined person. Not only in my professional career but in my personal life. You know you set goals and you don't give up until you get there.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I ever received is that it doesn't always have to be perfect to work. Sometimes you just kind of have to jump in and figure it out. I'm very much a perfectionist so sometimes you kind of have to just take a step back and go okay this is gonna work. It may not be pretty but it's gonna work.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
I work for a pretty supportive company. The challenges that I have are mostly challenges that I create myself. Sometimes if you don't have that college degree or you don't have the MBA or those letters behind your name sometimes you start to feel like maybe you don't deserve some of the accolades or the promotions and I think some of that is personal-driven.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Kindness and compassion are the most important things for me. Everybody that we come across is dealing with something. So being helpful being compassionate and kind I think those are the most important qualities and hard work. It's also pretty high up there but I think kindness and compassion are probably the biggest ones.
