Her Story

About Shenika

Shenika Lyons serves as Director of Associations in the RV industry. She entered the field four years ago after transitioning from the restaurant industry and has held her current position for two years. In this role, Shenika oversees the credentials of certified RV technicians and certified RV inspectors, actively working to change the position around by providing brand recognition and allowing additional women to see that they can succeed in the industry. She completed her bachelor's degree in business administration with a concentration in accounting three years ago and plans to return for a Master of Science in Accounting. Shenika attributes her success to her children, who inspired her to view life differently and motivated her to return to school in her 30s to demonstrate that they can achieve anything they set their mind to. Through her director role, she has led company charity events supporting the homeless shelter in Athens, Texas, raising over $10,000 to provide homes, shelters, jobs, resources, and meals for those in need. Her personal values center on putting God first and then family, while in her work life she prioritizes being helpful and delivering excellent customer service by going above and beyond. Shenika advises women entering the RV industry to receive the same training as everyone else, take advantage of opportunities, and not be afraid to pursue their goals. She credits a mentor with the advice to not be afraid and take challenges head on, affirming that she can do whatever she puts her mind to.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Shenika

01What do you attribute your success to?

I contribute my success to my children. They gave me a way to look at life differently, and I wanted to show them that they're able to do anything they set their mind to, which is why I went back to school in my 30s to get my degree.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Don't be afraid, and just take it head on. My mentor said, Shanika, you can do whatever you put your mind to. Go for it, apply for it, and do it.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

That you receive the same training everyone else does. Take advantage of it, you can do it, don't be afraid.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge is to get the certifications known, because a lot of people do mom and pops and handyman mechanics, but the RV industry is growing with technicians completing training who need to be recognized.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

In my personal life, always God first, and then family. In my work life, my value is to be helpful. I love customer service. If I can go above and beyond, then I definitely will try to help someone.
