Dr. Shenise McGhee is an accomplished Associate Librarian and Associate Professor at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, where she has dedicated nearly two decades to advancing academic excellence and student success. With a deep commitment to intellectual freedom, educational equity, and access to knowledge, Dr. McGhee has played a pivotal role in developing and promoting innovative library services that support both faculty and students. Her leadership in digital reference services, research instruction, and collection development has helped transform the university library into a dynamic hub for learning and community engagement.

Before assuming her current role, Dr. McGhee served as a Multimedia Specialist at the same institution, where she honed her expertise in technology integration, web content management, and multimedia communications. Her diverse skill set—spanning from digital resource management to instructional design—has made her a respected leader in higher education and information services. As both an educator and project leader, she continues to inspire collaboration across departments, emphasizing the importance of information literacy and lifelong learning.

Dr. McGhee earned her Doctor of Education (Ph.D.) in Higher Education Leadership and Management from Walden University, where she also completed her master’s degree in Higher Education. In addition, she holds advanced certifications in Library and Information Agency Management and Digital Content Management from the University of North Texas. Beyond her academic contributions, Dr. McGhee is an active member of the Arkansas Library Association and the American Library Association’s Office for Intellectual Freedom, where she advocates for the protection of library users’ rights and the promotion of equitable access to information. Her enduring passion for education, leadership, and service continues to shape the future of academic librarianship.

One of the biggest challenges in my field has been being among the first African American leaders. However, this challenge also presents a powerful opportunity to inspire others, break barriers, and pave the way for greater diversity and inclusion in the profession.
