Her Story
About Shereen
My journey in aviation began right out of college when I pursued my dream of becoming a flight attendant, something I knew I wanted to do since high school. I spent 29 years with Southwest Airlines, working across 6 different departments and 6 roles throughout my career there. Now, I'm coming up on one year with Alaska Airlines in Seattle, Washington, where I work for the internal audit team providing quality assurance audits for Alaska, Hawaiian Airlines, and Horizon, both on the operations side as well as their maintenance organizations. What I love most about all of my jobs truly has been building relationships and learning about people, and just seeing how I can be an advocate for them and help them in their careers, especially now that I'm later in mine. I'm able to help them walk through their growth and any challenges they may be having, connecting with them not only on a professional basis but also learning about them on a personal level as well. About 6 months ago, I launched my own company called Travel Career Runway, where I coach flight attendants part-time outside of my full-time work. I help them enter aviation as well as support those currently in the industry. This goes back to the coaching and mentoring piece and developing people - that really is my passion and enjoyment.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would advise them to network, to build relationships, to be authentic, to communicate, and most importantly, to ask people for what they want in terms of their career journey. Really hone in on those that have a lot of experience, because they can learn and perhaps not make those mistakes that the senior individuals have. So really, it will help them gain strength in not only entering aviation, but being able to promote and progress as well.
