About Sherita

Sherita Copeland has worked in recruiting and talent acquisition since 2011, supporting organizations across public and private sectors with a focus on placing the right people in the right roles. She currently supports early career development and internship programs at the Delaware Riverfront Bay Authority after transitioning back to Delaware. Copeland earned the Circle of Stars award from Manpower Group in 2017 and holds an HCI Strategic Talent Acquisition Certification. She started her education at Norfolk State before transitioning to Delaware and is now pursuing her bachelor's degree along with SHRM certification while serving on the SHRM Delaware committee and participating in the Talk Talent community. Her professional efforts include supporting the Project Employment Blueprint WIOA program for underrepresented communities in skilled trades and volunteering with the Powell Center and Boys and Girls Club. Copeland attributes her success to her personal and professional journey interacting with people from all walks of life and her commitment to being a voice for those who may not have one. She values integrity and fairness in all aspects of talent acquisition, emphasizing open communication, advocacy, and strong relationships. 01What do you attribute your success to?

My journey personally and professionally has shaped me through interactions with individuals from all walks of life. I've always wanted to be a voice to others that may not have a voice, drawing from where I've come from and my professional experiences.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Go where you are celebrated, not tolerated. Be in a position where your background and skill set is utilized and valued by an organization that understands your values.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Navigating an ever-changing landscape in talent acquisition with AI incorporated into the candidate experience, requiring keeping up to date with technology. From a socio-economic perspective, opening doors for underrepresented communities in skilled trades.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Integrity and fairness go hand in hand. They involve open communication, advocating for individuals, developing good relationships, and ensuring fairness in every aspect of talent acquisition.
