About Shernice

Currently, I serve as the K–5 Math Coach at Promise Academy I and Promise Academy II, where I lead curriculum design, instructional implementation, and teacher development across multiple campuses. In this role, I have designed comprehensive long-range Curriculum and Instruction calendars for the 2024–2025 and 2025–2026 school years, developed K–5 assessments and rigorous state test preparation materials, authored over 500 standards-aligned story problems, and created Winter, Spring, and Summer learning packets to support ongoing student achievement.

In addition, I lead weekly classroom observations, facilitate CIP and data-driven meetings, and design targeted professional development to strengthen teacher capacity in delivering conceptually rigorous, student-centered math instruction. Through these efforts, I have driven measurable impact across schools, including closing conceptual gaps by 40% in grades K–2 and 58% in grades 3–5, increasing teacher instructional proficiency by 49%, and improving K–5 student performance on story problems by 22% during the 2024–2025 school year.

At the core of my work is a deep commitment to equity and identity. I intentionally create learning environments and support systems that affirm my Black and Brown scholars, ensuring they not only build strong mathematical skills but also confidently see themselves as mathematicians, understanding that they are capable, brilliant, and belong in every math space.

In addition to my work as a Math Coach, I serve as a mentor to five first-year teachers across the country through the UNCF program. In this role, I am committed to uplifting and supporting Black and Brown educators, emphasizing the importance of representation in education; particularly within STEM fields. I strive to empower both teachers and students to recognize that they belong in these spaces, reinforcing the belief that we are mathematicians and that our presence and excellence in this field matter.
