Her Story

About Sherona

Sherona is a passionate performing arts educator, dance instructor, choreographer, and community mentor dedicated to using the arts as a vehicle for connection, inspiration, and personal growth. Her journey in dance began at the age of five, and what started as a childhood passion has evolved into a lifelong commitment to uplifting others through movement and creative expression. Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, Sherona believes that dance is a powerful form of communication—one that transcends words, inspires hope, and allows people to connect on a deeper level.

Throughout her career, Sherona has devoted herself to developing and mentoring young people through the performing arts. As a dance instructor with Youth Utilizing Power and Praise Organization, a nonprofit serving children, youth, and young adults, she uses her talents to empower the next generation of artists and leaders. Her experience as Director and Choreographer of SherOnMyPraise Dance Ministry, as well as her years of leadership with Hands of Praise Dance Ministry, have allowed her to create meaningful artistic experiences that inspire faith, confidence, discipline, and self-expression. Through teaching, choreography, and performance, she has helped countless individuals discover their voices and build lasting confidence through the arts.

Beyond the dance studio, Sherona is deeply committed to community service and mentorship. She has spent nearly two decades serving youth through her church community, providing guidance, support, and leadership to young people and their families. Her work reflects a genuine passion for giving back, fostering creativity, and creating opportunities for others to thrive. Whether teaching a dance class, mentoring a young artist, or leading a performance ministry, Sherona remains dedicated to preserving the arts, strengthening communities, and inspiring others to find purpose, hope, and connection through creative expression.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Sherona

01What do you attribute your success to?

I believe it's wanting my family to be proud of me, so I would go back to family. I always want to be the best that I can be.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Just be yourself. I'm a woman of faith as well, and so I believe that if you have a gift or a talent, you are only one of one. Be who you are, stand boldly in front of people, and just show your gift or your talent to the world, because somebody is waiting to see somebody just like you.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Think out of the box. Be creative. Don't compare yourself. Enter the room with confidence, wherever you go. And always know that you always need to be a student that wants to learn and grow. Always be a student.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Social media, particularly TikTok and platforms like Instagram, present both challenges and opportunities. The challenge is the pressure and comparison to be like somebody else. It can lead to low self-esteem and looking for approval. As an instructor, I see students, especially teenagers, who have challenges expressing themselves or even just looking at themselves in the mirror because they're used to having their faces in a screen. Their conversation skills may not be strong because they don't talk to people - they're just on their phones. So we have to work and navigate that confidence and inspiration out of them. The positive side is that if you have the right mindset of 'this is who I am, and this is where I'm presenting myself to the world,' you can promote yourself and be authentic.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Excellence, positivity, encouragement, growth, determination, and family are my core values. I want to come in excellent, be positive, and provide encouragement. I really want to grow in everything that I do. Determination is important to me - to face whether it's your fears or something new, you need to be determined. And my family - I love my family. Family is so important to me.
