About Sherrie
Sherrie Sutton is a dedicated educator with 28 years of teaching experience, specializing in mathematics education and supporting struggling learners in grades 4 through 8. Currently serving as a 7th/8th Grade Math Teacher and Department Chair at Mansfield ISD, she has built a career focused on helping students develop academic confidence and achieve meaningful growth. Throughout her career across school districts in Texas and Louisiana, she has taught mathematics and science while also leading math professional learning communities, mentoring teachers, supervising student teachers, and facilitating professional development.
Sherrie’s educational background reflects her commitment to lifelong learning and innovation in education. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems from Grambling State University in 1993, followed by a master’s degree in Education Administration from the University of North Texas in 2009 and a master’s degree in Education Technology from Strayer University. She has also supported schools through social-emotional learning initiatives, restorative circles, PBIS, classroom management strategies, and learning management system training. Her work has contributed to measurable student achievement, including helping students achieve 10- to 15-point increases on state examinations.
Beyond the classroom, Sherrie is passionate about reaching students who may be struggling and watching them grow into successful individuals. She views teaching as a calling and takes pride in having taught multiple generations of students. Her faith and relationship with God are central to her life, and she remains active in her church, Rising Star Baptist, alongside her husband, who serves as a minister. Outside of education, she enjoys decorating, crafting, traveling as a travel advisor, and spending time with her seven grandchildren, while continuing to inspire students, educators, and families through her commitment to learning and service.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my faith, which guides and directs me, as well as the love and support of my family. I also value the meaningful friendships that have encouraged and strengthened me along the way.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve received is to treat people the way I want to be treated and to make sure those around me know that they are valued and cared for.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering education is to recognize that it should be a calling, not simply a job. When you are truly called to serve, let that passion guide you and make sure your students know that you genuinely care about and love them.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in education is gaining student buy-in and ensuring strong parental support. Engaging both students and parents in the academic process is essential to creating a supportive environment where students can succeed.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
My faith and my relationship with God are the values I stand on in both my work and personal life. They are my driving force and guide the way I lead, serve, and interact with others.
