Sherrilyn Defreece is a Scientific Director with extensive expertise in analytical science, microbiological analysis, and pharmaceutical compliance. She currently leads the scientific team at Digipath, Inc., where she oversees laboratory operations, ensures the accuracy and reliability of testing services, and drives the implementation of quality systems that meet ISO 17025 accreditation standards. With a strong background in analytical chemistry and microbiology, she has built a reputation for maintaining rigorous scientific standards while advancing testing methodologies in regulated laboratory environments.
Sherrilyn earned a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas after working in the pharmaceutical industry to help finance her education. She began her career as an analytical chemist and microbiologist, gaining hands-on experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing, formulation science, and laboratory testing. Over the years, she developed expertise in the maintenance, validation, calibration, and troubleshooting of advanced analytical instrumentation, including HPTLC, FTIR, LCMS/MS, GCMS/MS/FID, UPLC, and ICPMS, laying the foundation for her progression into scientific leadership.
Her career reflects a steady rise through increasingly responsible roles, from chemist and microbiologist to Scientific Director. With more than a decade of pharmaceutical experience and seven years in microbiological and analytical testing, Sherrilyn combines technical excellence with strong leadership to ensure product quality, regulatory compliance, and continuous laboratory innovation. She remains committed to advancing scientific knowledge, mentoring laboratory professionals, and supporting the development of reliable testing practices that protect public health and uphold industry standards.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to hard work, perseverance, and having a clear long-term goal. No matter what challenges or obstacles come my way, I remain focused on my purpose and keep moving forward. I believe that consistent effort, resilience, and determination are the keys to achieving meaningful success.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice is to avoid taking on unnecessary student loans if possible. Working while in school helps you appreciate your education more, builds a strong work ethic, and prepares you for your future career.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that matter most to me are passion and authenticity. I believe you should do something you truly love, because it's difficult to succeed in work that you're not genuinely committed to.
