Her Interview

Ten minutes with Sherry

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success first and foremost to God, and to the support of my family. I am also grateful to have two godmothers in education who I can consistently turn to for guidance and to help me refine my ideas. In addition, I value the lasting relationships I have built with students over the past 14 years, which have been both grounding and deeply rewarding.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I have ever received is to always remain true to who I am. I am Sherry, and I do not try to be anyone else or fit into a predefined box. Staying authentic to myself and my values has guided my decisions and ultimately contributed to where I am today.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

The advice I would give to young women entering my industry is that the sky is the limit. Step in with confidence, pursue your goals fully, and remain true to who you are. Don’t pursue this field just for a paycheck—be intentional about your purpose and passion. Get involved in clubs, sports, and organizations, and make yourself available and genuinely invested in the lives of students. Always remember your “why,” and lead with heart, commitment, and a true passion for the work you do.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge in my field right now is time management—balancing the need to complete all daily tasks while still giving parents my full attention and ensuring they never feel rushed. It requires staying organized, being present in each interaction, and maintaining a steady pace throughout the day so that both responsibilities and relationships are handled effectively.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me in both my work and personal life are integrity—practicing what I preach—and being genuine rather than forcing anything. I believe kindness is contagious and costs nothing, yet it makes a meaningful difference in every interaction. I also value the ability to leave problems at the door and remain present, so I can give my full attention and best self to the people I am with.
