Her Story

About Shiny

I have a computer science background and a Master's in interaction design. As the sole designer at RotoWire, I own end-to-end design decisions and the design system. I built the design to development process and led the 0-to-1 football app launch across all platforms in less than two months. My interaction design and computer science background helps me bridge the technical and design gap.

Ten minutes with Shiny

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would say just being determined in my career, like actually being passionate about what I do every day, that's what kind of drives me.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

I would say just to believe in yourself. Sometimes people question your ability and you lose confidence, but my mentors advised to have confidence in yourself and believe in yourself. Every time you have an idea or solution, believe in it and back it up, because in the design field you need to explain and advocate for your decisions.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Believe in yourself, and if you're passionate about it you're going to find your way. Coming from a technical background and switching fields, you really need to put in the work, understand the ground reality, and push through even when things get difficult.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The difference between good UX and bad UX. Everything is built by AI now and people ship products without groundwork, which can lead to discrepancies in user flow. The challenge is shipping faster while keeping user experience at the core, as rushing can cost more in the long run.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

For me, it's honesty and reliability. Being very truthful to whatever you do, and having a sense of responsibility and ownership end-to-end. Also being collaborative, because you cannot build anything all by yourself and need to bounce ideas off each other as a team.
