Her Story

About Shipra

Shipra Dhain has built a 15-year career in high tech at the intersection of product, business operations, and GTM. She began as a software engineer before pursuing a Master's in information systems from SUNY Buffalo. After graduation, she joined Whirlpool's leadership development program, followed by two and a half years in management consulting at ZS Associates. She then moved to Salesforce, working in strategy and operations for sales teams within the finance function, focusing on biz ops and incentive strategy. At Google, her first role mirrored this work in a B2C domain, and she has since transitioned to the technical services side, where she develops consumer support strategy for products such as Gmail and Google accounts. Shipra is involved in internal women's networks at her company and led a D&I circle from 2018 to 2021. She attributes her success to balance, perseverance, reflection, timely transitions, and pursuing roles that foster growth and mindset development. Her core values include integrity and respect for opportunity, and she advises young women entering the field to be bold, raise their hands for opportunities, and overcome imposter syndrome.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Shipra

01What do you attribute your success to?

I think balance. Long careers are built firstly with perseverance but also by taking the time off, reflecting, making transitions at the right point, for letting yourself grow, taking up new challenges, and taking the jobs for the right reasons. People take jobs for titles or levels but long careers are built by finding the roles that excite you, that give you the skills that you need, and help you grow your mindset.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Be bold. There have been times that I haven't raised my hand for the next opportunity. I should have done it quicker. There have been instances where I might have not shared my point because I was feeling the imposter syndrome. Everyone goes through that. Don't be shy, be bold, and really ask for what you want, say your point. And make the decisions that make you happy.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge and opportunity is the influx of AI. The challenge is to use AI in a way that helps the business or the goals versus thinking the other way around. The opportunity is an extremely exciting time for high tech with unlimited potential for solving problems that were not solvable a few years ago, like using AI for sustainability and circular economy.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Integrity and respect for the opportunity. Integrity means trying as much as you can not to cut corners and really do things the right way. Respect for opportunity means thinking about your job not just as your job but as a business and taking decisions as if you own the business. I try to build a community of women around me to help each other grow.
