Her Story
About Shira
I am a mechanical engineer with over a decade of experience in the design and development of complex mechanical systems across aerospace, defense, and industrial robotics, currently serving as Senior Mechanical Engineer at Optikos, LLC, a role I stepped into in June 2026, where I apply my expertise in optomechanical systems and precision engineering to support advanced optical and imaging solutions.
Prior to this role, I served as Senior R&D Mechanical Engineer at Astroscale for over a year, where I designed space-qualified mechanisms and structural systems for satellite servicing missions, including a satellite propulsion mechanism arm with hinge and structural interfaces, and developed Thermal Mathematical Models using NASA and ECSS methodologies while performing FEA to support structural integrity and design optimization for space operating conditions.
Before joining Astroscale, I spent over six years at Orbit Communication Systems in progressively responsible roles, including R&D Mechanical Engineer Team Leader for over three years, where I led a team of seven mechanical engineers developing precision tracking systems across ten to fifteen projects annually, managed subcontractors and oversaw mechanical design work across multimillion-dollar projects, reviewed drawings to GD&T and ASME Y14.5 standards, and owned drawing revision control and PLM processes. I also served as R&D Mechanical Engineer for over three years, where I designed communication antennas and tracking systems for airborne, maritime, and ground applications for demanding military and commercial environments.
Earlier in my career, I served as Mechanical Engineer at Airobotics for nearly three years, where I co-developed a drone-in-a-box system that achieved Beyond Line of Sight approval, designing critical drone, docking-station, and robotic-arm components and performing structural, flow, and thermal analysis. I also served as a Teaching Assistant at Tel Aviv University, assisting in control systems and engineering coursework for undergraduate students.
Across my career in mechanical engineering, aerospace, and robotics, my work has been driven by a commitment to precision, innovation, and reliability in the design of systems that operate in demanding and mission-critical environments. Whether I am designing space-qualified mechanisms, leading engineering teams, or developing autonomous drone systems, I bring a strong technical foundation, a collaborative approach, and a dedication to excellence that supports the success of complex engineering projects. I am proud of the work I have done throughout my career and excited to continue advancing mechanical engineering in the aerospace and optical systems industries.
