Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to resilience and a strong passion for helping others. After battling breast cancer, I realized how precious life is and was inspired by the care I received to pursue nursing. I love giving back through surgical outreach and local donations, knowing even small acts can make a big difference. One of my proudest achievements was helping design and open a new hospital, ensuring it supports both patients and staff. My personal journey keeps me passionate and dedicated to my work every day.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I ever received came from a mentor early in my nursing career who reminded me that while we must strive for perfection, we’re human and mistakes happen; this taught me to stay diligent but also to be kind to myself, understanding that errors can be opportunities to learn rather than reasons to be harsh.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in nursing right now is the shortage of nurses, which leads to heavier patient loads—especially with the growing number of baby boomers and geriatric patients—making it harder to provide quality care; this is compounded by medication shortages that affect timely treatment, but it also presents an opportunity to lead with passion, resilience, and innovation to improve healthcare systems.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The most important values to me are treating everyone with respect, dignity, and love, supporting others so they can thrive, and ensuring that every patient feels seen and valued—not just like a number. Nursing is more than a job; it’s about uplifting people, and being nominated multiple times for the Daisy Award reminds me how kindness and compassion can truly make a difference in someone’s life.
