Her Story
About Shivani
I have been in the data engineering field for 7-8 years, and I am currently a Senior Data Engineer at Ingram Micro, where I have been for more than 2 years. My journey began after completing my master's degree in Computer Information System from California State University, Los Angeles in 2019. I started as a Business Intelligence Analyst contractor for Los Angeles World Airport, where I built dashboards that enabled critical business decisions, including the creation of the dedicated bus and rideshare pickup area that visitors see at LAX today. I then spent 2 years at TCS working on Microsoft projects, including Azure Customer Growth Analytics and Salesforce Marketing Cloud applications. After that, I worked at Deloitte for over 2 years as a data engineer on projects for Apple and Meta, building data pipelines. In my current role at Ingram Micro, I lead the development of data pipelines for multiple datasets and production environments, ensuring our customers have access to real-time data. I am also working on implementing AI tools to bring automation and speed to our data engineering pipelines. I am passionate about making sure data is available all the time with no delays, and I continue to keep myself updated with the latest tools and technologies through online courses, particularly in generative AI. I am planning to pursue my PhD in Advanced Computer Science at Westcliff University starting this September to further advance my expertise.

Ten minutes with Shivani
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to a combination of dedication, hard work, and taking breaks to refresh my mind so I can perform better. I believe in taking quarterly breaks to give my mind the relaxation it needs, which helps me come back stronger. I also make small goals so that I can achieve them and work towards them step by step. Most importantly, I stick to my goals. If you know your goal, if you know your why, then your how will definitely follow you. That's my mantra.
02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest opportunities in my field right now are around AI. Since AI is booming, I would say learn some new tools and technologies that involve AI and implement them in your current role. If I have to suggest to other data engineers, I would say bring some automation, bring that automation part into the data engineering pipeline so it can speed up the work and resolve so many delays. Real-time pipelines will be more available in every company. Currently, I'm working on that part where we make sure that our data is available in real-time, not any seconds delay as well.
