Shreya Dasgupta: You can overthink it later, at your leisure.
What does being an Influential Woman mean to you?
Shreya Dasgupta: I have had quite the journey in my career, and at every juncture I've been carried by amazing women as mentors. If I can be that mentor to someone, I would consider myself an influential woman. Through my personal experience, I can attest to how self-doubt gets the better of us. It holds us back from taking that first step. It's not perfect. I can make it better. It needs more polishing. In reality, you just need to start. My husband and my biggest cheerleader Sagata, has always pushed me to take that first step. My fellow Budget Blinds business owner in New Jersey, Sony Scogerson, has also always pushed me to just go for it. You can overthink it later, at your leisure. So my advice for all you women out there is to make the first move, take the first step, and start. The right people will find you and help you become successful. So go for it.
What's one piece of advice you would give to younger women chasing their dreams?
Shreya Dasgupta: At the risk of repeating myself again and again, my advice to all you young women, chasing your dreams, young or old, there is no right age to start. So if you haven't gotten around to putting that idea that you have in your brain, in your journal, in your notebook, in your voice notes. Take action. Start by doing one small thing towards making that happen. It doesn't have to be the very end goal. Take the first step, register the business, create that social media page. Design the product. Just get it out of your head and into something concrete. I promise you, you will know where to go with it once you start doing it.

Her Interview
Ten minutes with Shreya
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to all my mentors and fellow Budget Blinds owners who have guided me and helped me along the way. Our growth doesn't happen in isolation. I give thanks for my incredibly supportive husband and business partner, Sougata who believes in me more than I do. I have the best family and friends who build me up and encourage me every chance they get.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I have ever received is to "just do it". Quite literally, just start doing rather than waiting to perfect and polish an idea. One learns more through doing and failing than perfecting it on paper before making the first move.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would tell all the young women entering the industry that they are more capable than they are aware of and they should silence the murmurs of self doubt in their mind and start by taking action. They will be glad to see their ideas jump out of their notebook into reality.
