Her Story

About Shruti

As a Senior Technical Program Manager at Google, my main areas of expertise involve diving deep into the technical risks and blockers that come up, and coming up with mitigations for those challenges. On the technical side, for any program I lead, I'm there looking at the system level and understanding those technical risks. On the soft skills side, which is really the heart of program management, it's all about bringing people together - ensuring collaboration, communication, and visibility to the right priorities in a program. I like to give the visual that I'm kind of like a hub of a wheel, like a bicycle wheel, connecting all of the different parts together to drive the program end-to-end. Most recently, I got promoted, and it led me to the team that I currently work with, where I'm now working with AI. I think every milestone I've achieved, or every step that has progressed my career has been notable, because it has led me to this final place where I am.

Ten minutes with Shruti

01What do you attribute your success to?

I went through a growth journey, and I would attribute my success to being self-aware and being my authentic self, and not holding anything back. There are a lot of things that contributed to my success, like my upbringing, my parents, my husband, my family, and my kids. But the three things that would really culminate are just finally not holding back, being my authentic self, and just showing up every day. I think those elements, combined with everything my family has given me, have been the foundation of where I am today.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would break it down into maybe three key points. First, be your authentic self. Second, come with no reservations or insecurities - come with your full confidence. There's no stupid questions, so be your confident self. And third, no idea is stupid, so make sure to speak up whenever the opportunity arises. I think those three things are really important for young women entering this industry.
