Her Story

About Sianni

Sianni Cabello founded her nonprofit in 2018 to assist formerly incarcerated adults and youth with college access or career placement. The organization has served students in New York, DC, Virginia, Atlanta, and Australia through in-person and virtual programs, including an annual college prep event featuring colleges, celebrities, and athletes. She recently completed her term on the Arlington County School Board, where she served as budget advisory chair and council chair and helped manage a $25 million budget for student success across Arlington County and Virginia. Cabello earned her undergraduate degree in political science from Hampton University, where she interned on Capitol Hill and in a mayor's office. She later obtained a master's degree from Columbia University in nonprofit management and law while continuing political work in New York with borough presidents. After moving back to DC, she worked at the Department of State on international policy and embassy building before transitioning full-time to her foundation. She has served on the executive board of Hampton University and is a member of the National Council of Negro Women in DC. Through her nonprofit, Cabello partners with organizations such as Voices on Barred and mentors approximately 20 individuals who have completed her program.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would tell her to write down the vision, make it plain, and pray about stuff, and move forward and do it, and don't look back. If you're gonna do it, do it well. I also break down the idea nuts and bolts and give a framework on what it looks like to go forward.
