Her Story
About Sierra
I'm currently a Marketing Coordinator at RJN Group, where I've been for two years, starting as an intern and then transitioning to a full-time employee. My expertise is definitely in social media and paid social ads, and I've also taken on a lot of proposal coordination and proposal writing work. I'm really proud of how I've grown our social platforms since I started posting more consistently. I've raised the impressions by 71% and interactions by 64%, and increased our follower count by 200. I see a big opportunity in the AEC industry right now around creating short-form video content, because different social channels are promoting it more, and not a lot of companies are using it yet. I think that's a big opportunity for us to grow. The challenge is really getting our word of mouth out there, especially as more companies pop up and new technology evolves, but I think we're doing well and hopefully becoming word of mouth in a lot of different cities. I earned my bachelor's degree in communication with a minor in advertising and business from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2024, and just completed my master's in Management from the same university in 2025.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Sierra
01What do you attribute your success to?
I would definitely attribute my success to what my parents instilled in me from a young age to continue to try and do better every day. I think some of the lessons I learned in childhood and throughout my schooling really allow me to be successful today.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've ever received was from my dad, actually. He told me that even when things seem like they're going so wrong, put on a brave face and just continue, because some days you just want to stop and quit, but you just can't. As you get farther in your career, you become more confident and more stable, and being able to stand on your own. So, just to keep going, to keep pushing, like Nemo does, keep going.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would say to always be open and ask questions. I think in the AEC industry, people are super open and willing to help you and just be there for you. So, I think having the confidence to speak up in meetings is really important. I guess just be super confident is probably the number one thing.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
I would say we're really into creating short-form video content. I think that's a really big opportunity for us to grow on our platforms, especially because different social channels are promoting it more if you use the short-form video content. That's a big opportunity in the AEC industry, because not a lot of companies are using it. I mean, obviously, some do, but I think that's a big opportunity for us to grow. And I think a challenge is just really getting our word of mouth out there. There's obviously more and more competition as more companies pop up and new technology evolves. So I think that's a big challenge for us, but I think we're doing well, and hopefully becoming word of mouth in a lot of different cities.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I think honesty is really important to me. I also think dependability is pretty big in both my work and personal life. All three of those are pretty big in my personal and my work life.
