I started my dental career as a teen mom who had never even been to the dentist before, which made entering this field completely outside of anything I knew about. After completing my RDA certification at Milan in a 6-8 month program, I got my first job at Familia Dental, and within just a month they hired me as their office manager, which was wild because I was like, I've only been in dental assisting for a month, I don't know what I'm doing. But it just reflects how things were set up for me moving forward in my career. I worked at a prison for dental assisting to get better hours for my child, where I learned how backdated the prison system dental is - we were in the 2000s but still dipping x-rays and doing amalgam, like going backwards in time. After working as a receptionist while going to school for surgical tech, I jumped into orthodontics treatment coordinating and really excelled at that, so much so that we had to separate the general dental office from all the other specialties and build a whole new office for the general because I built up their specialty program so much in our hometown. I moved to Dallas to be an orthodontic dental director, then went to Rodeo Dental where I helped open up more offices, integrate different things, work through COVID, started new systems, and helped run their ortho department for about 8 years. Now I'm helping with opening up holistic services with Dr. Tony Ingram, an amazing dentist, and I love hearing about the mission and core values. Hopefully in July we'll have a new practice, and moving forward, hopefully we can start a holistic DSO realm.
