Ten minutes with Siouxzan

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to the resilience I developed from overcoming adversity early in life. Growing up in an environment where I was often told that I was not good enough or would not succeed motivated me to prove that I could build a meaningful and successful life. Rather than allowing those experiences to define me, I used them as fuel to pursue my goals, advocate for others, and create opportunities to make a positive difference. Through my professional work, pageant titles, and community involvement, I have remained committed to using my experiences and platform to encourage, empower, and help others.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I have ever received is to pursue what you genuinely see yourself doing and take the necessary steps to make it a reality. I believe in not allowing other people’s doubts or obstacles to stand in the way of your goals. If achieving your vision requires changing industries, gaining additional education, developing new skills, or stepping outside of your comfort zone, be willing to make those changes. Stay committed to your goals, believe in your potential, and do whatever is necessary to build the career and life you envision.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering the healthcare industry is to lead with compassion, patience, and empathy. You will work with people who may be experiencing difficult circumstances, emotional challenges, or uncertainty, so it is important to be an active listener who can provide reassurance, encouragement, and genuine support. When I first entered the industry, I did not fully understand the emotional demands of working closely with people, but I learned those lessons through experience. I encourage young women to understand the realities of the profession, develop strong interpersonal skills, and recognize the importance of being someone who can positively impact a person’s day, even during challenging moments.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges and opportunities in my field is ensuring that every patient fully understands their healthcare options and feels comfortable asking questions. Patients may sometimes feel embarrassed, overwhelmed, or uncertain about discussing their concerns, which can prevent them from seeking the information they need. I see an opportunity to build trust by actively listening, creating a welcoming environment, and encouraging patients to speak openly. When patients feel heard and supported, they are more likely to ask questions, understand their options, and make informed decisions about their healthcare.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Integrity is the most important value in both my professional and personal life. To me, integrity means doing what you say you will do, keeping your word, and consistently choosing to do the right thing, even when no one is watching. I believe true character is demonstrated through our actions when there is no expectation of recognition or praise. I strive to be someone who remains honest, dependable, and accountable in every situation, regardless of whether anyone is there to see it.
