Skye White is a caregiver advocate and the founder of Caregiver Helper NYC, a service dedicated to supporting family caregivers navigating the overwhelming realities of caring for loved ones with serious illnesses. Based in New York City, she draws from deeply personal experience as the primary caregiver for her partner living with Lewy Body Dementia—a journey that required years of persistence to secure a diagnosis and manage complex care needs. Her work is rooted in empathy, practical knowledge, and a commitment to helping others facing similar challenges, particularly those dealing with dementia, cancer, and end-of-life care.

Before transitioning into caregiver advocacy, Skye built a long and successful career in project management, where she developed strong organizational, administrative, and strategic planning skills. As her caregiving responsibilities intensified, she shifted her professional focus, eventually channeling her expertise into building Caregiver Helper NYC. Through her work, she provides flexible, non-medical support—ranging from coordinating care and managing logistics to connecting clients with legal, financial, and healthcare resources—helping caregivers reduce stress and focus more on their loved ones and personal well-being.

In addition to her business, Skye is an active volunteer with the Lewy Body Dementia Association and supports caregiver communities such as the Queens Center for Gay Seniors. She is also engaged with broader advocacy efforts related to Parkinson’s and neurodegenerative diseases, including organizations like the Michael J. Fox Foundation and the Parkinson's Foundation. Guided by a philosophy of compassionate, hands-on support, Skye continues to build a network of resources and services aimed at empowering caregivers, reducing isolation, and improving access to critical care systems.

Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my drive and early success to recognizing the gap in support for family caregivers. I built my business around the kind of help I needed myself, and the alignment with broader demographic and policy trends—such as a growing aging population and the increasing emphasis on aging at home—has further fueled demand for caregiver services.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

To believe in myself and my capacity to learn as I go forward building my business and helping others.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering this industry is to believe in your goals and your ability to achieve them. Stay curious, remain open to learning, actively build your network, and be ready to put in the hard work required to create meaningful social change.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Some of the biggest challenges in my field include limited public awareness of conditions like Lewy body dementia, difficulty accessing experimental diagnostics and clinical trials—such as the SYN-ONE skin test, which is useful but hard to obtain in New York—and the complexity of navigating medical systems and Medicaid, along with broader strains on the healthcare workforce. At the same time, there are significant opportunities. The growing need for caregiver support as populations age, combined with policies that encourage aging at home, is creating increasing demand for in‑home caregiver navigation and services.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that are most important to me in both my work and personal life include a commitment to providing practical, empathetic support, helping others the way I wished I had been helped, staying open to learning, and maintaining a focus on delivering tangible outcomes for families.
