Her Story

About Smita

I've been in customer service for over 15 years because I've always believed that every day is a new day with new issues to solve, and that makes you a better version of yourself. I have a problem-solving attitude and I knew customer service was the right place for me to be able to assist people while building knowledge across different domains. Throughout my career, I've worked in the telecom industry doing backend operations, in insurance, and when I first started in my home country as an immigrant, I worked with a big newspaper agency helping students with their writing programs. I would volunteer there and give students a brief introduction to writing skills across various domains, and if their work was good enough, we would publish it in the newspaper in a special section just for school kids. Today, I work with a company called eBix, which specializes in insurance tracking programs. I track insurance requirements for various clients and help them navigate insurance compliance, letting them know if they're compliant or not. I love what I'm doing because it keeps me updated with what's going on in insurance and it's a continuous learning platform for me. What I enjoy most is being able to help my clients immediately, sometimes they need me to look at insurance requirements even before someone hits the work site, sometimes within 24 hours or less. I like doing whatever I can to help my clients stay on top of things so their business runs smoothly.

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my family and their support. I've also been blessed to have good team members and good people around me who supported me, understood me, and gave me the opportunity to give my best. Having that kind of support system has been key to everything I've been able to accomplish throughout my career.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Don't stop yourself. Do mistakes and learn from it. That's the most important thing I can tell anyone starting out in this field.
