Her Story
About Sofia
I graduated from Florida State University in May with a degree in Biomedical Sciences, but I've always been drawn to sales. All of my friends and family always told me I have a gift with people, and I've realized it myself. I had a previous sales internship for two summers, and that's what sparked my interest in sales. When an opening came up for ADP, such a reputable and well-known company that's known for its training for sales, I thought it would be the perfect place to grow my career. I'm only three months into the field, but I got Rookie of the Month for my first month on the job. I work in outside sales with local businesses here in my hometown of Sarasota, covering the Southwest Florida region. I educate business owners, bankers, and accountants about compliance with legislative laws and changes, so they can stay in compliance and avoid fines. I love talking to people and helping people in general, and this job was the perfect fit to do that. I'm lucky to have such a supportive team, including my manager Luis Franco, my mentor Leanne Veena, and my vice president Gabby Lozada, who always makes time to talk to us and share her insights from when she was in our position.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Sofia
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my family. They've always been my role models, so all my success, they've kind of led me here to who I am today and how I am. They've been my support system throughout everything.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've ever received is work hard, play hard. As long as you work hard, it shows off, and I feel like with any job that I have, no matter what it is, even when I was working in a restaurant, I try to strive to be the best version of myself I can be to help all my teammates out, my colleagues, and then also just give quality work.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would say it can be stressful at first, anything can be stressful when starting a new job. It's kind of like a foreign language, but as long as you study and understand your products, once you understand it, you have full faith within it. As long as you can have a conversation and you know your product, you'll be successful, as long as you have a personable attitude.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Since I'm so new, I'm still trying to figure out everything, but as far as challenges, it's more so just people not really responding after having that one touch of reaching out to them. The opportunity out there is to educate people on what's going on in the world with compliance issues, and just try and show the fact that you're trying to save them from any unnecessary fines and make sure they're compliant.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I would say communication is probably key for anything and everything that you do. Communication is a very big aspect of it, as well as honesty. Honesty is always big. I'm very open, and a lot of salespeople can be very pushy, but I feel like I'm a very personable salesperson. I don't want to steer someone in the wrong direction, you know. I want to build trust.
