Her Story

About Sofie

Sofie Stinson is the founder and CEO of Active BodyWorx, a full recovery center and medical massage clinic located in Scottsdale, Arizona. Over her 26-year career as a massage therapist, she has built a reputation for a medical, results-driven approach to bodywork, centered on structural realignment techniques designed to help clients manage and reduce chronic pain. Rather than pursuing a traditional spa model, Stinson works closely alongside pain-management physicians, orthopedic surgeons, and physical therapists, positioning her practice at the intersection of clinical care and hands-on therapy. Stinson's professional path began with a clinical and sports massage internship at the University of Washington, followed by formal training at the Seattle School of Massage, where she earned a certification in structural realignment through clinical and sport massage. She later relocated to Arizona, where she grew her business from the ground up, eventually expanding her facility from roughly 1,500 to 4,000 square feet. Her career has also included five years working part-time as a licensed massage therapist for Major League Baseball, an experience that deepened her expertise in sports recovery and deep tissue work. Today, her clinic incorporates advanced recovery modalities, including compression therapy, red light therapy, PEMF, infrared sauna, and cold plunge, all aimed at reducing inflammation and improving long-term outcomes for clients. Beyond her clinical work, Stinson is recognized as an advocate for women in business and wellness leadership. She has shared her insights as a panelist at a women's leadership conference in front of an audience of roughly 400 people, and she has been selected for inclusion in the 2026 edition of Influential Women. Stinson credits much of her success to the balance she has learned to strike as a business owner and single mother, emphasizing self-compassion, consistency in the basics, and a commitment to lifelong hands-on learning over formal credentials alone. She continues to champion mentorship and visibility for other women pursuing careers in the health and wellness industry.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Sofie

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to giving myself grace as a woman and a mother juggling both work and family. I've learned not to try to do too much in a single day, and instead focus on getting the basics done consistently.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best advice I've received is that hands-on training teaches you far more than formal education ever could. I've grown the most by staying curious, asking a lot of questions, and learning directly through experience.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I'd encourage young women to give themselves grace, understanding that some days you'll operate at full capacity and other days you won't, and that's okay. I also believe strongly in focusing on client education and empowerment, while supporting other women and helping create visibility and opportunities for one another.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest opportunities I see is integrating recovery-room technologies with medical massage to more effectively target inflammation and extend pain relief for clients. At the same time, a real challenge in our field is educating referral sources and increasing visibility for women business leaders in health and wellness.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that matter most to me are helping others, empowering people through education, fostering teamwork, leading with compassion, and giving myself grace as I balance the many roles I hold.
