About Solangel

I recently started working as a patient resource assistant at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, where I help transport patients around the hospital and make sure they get where they need to be safely. I also take care of patients under the Baker Act, watching them and making sure all their needs are met for the day. What led me to this role was my love for taking care of people. I thought the hospital was a place where I could truly see my love for medicine and appreciate that more - you get to see the nurses, you get to see the doctors, you get to see healthcare in action, and all the people that make healing possible. I wanted to put myself in an environment where I could also contribute to someone's healing journey. As a pre-med student, I hope to be a doctor someday, so I thought this was an amazing way to get a glimpse into the hospital and make sure that's something I'm actually interested in. It's been amazing - I've learned that I truly want to be in healthcare and help people find the root of their problem, specifically. I see people going in and out where the roots of their problem aren't being treated, so I would probably want to focus on that. My role in the hospital isn't too big, as I'm not done with school yet, but I do try to use my role to the best that I can and make sure that anyone I interact with hopefully has their day made a little bit better. I'm currently a sophomore at Florida State University majoring in Behavioral Neuroscience, and I'm also working on research conducting a meta-analysis on Alzheimer's, trying to find precursors to the disease by looking at cognitive symptoms. After graduation in 2028, my plans aren't the typical go straight to medical school - I really want to integrate myself more into the medical field before making that huge jump. I'm going to do an EMT program where I can hopefully become a paramedic and do that for a couple of years. You're really out there in the field as the first to respond when someone needs help, and I just want to experience all this before jumping into medical school.
