About Sonali
I am responsible globally for Honeywell's data migration between legacy systems to SAP systems, including multiple M&As like aerospace and Global Access and LNG. This involves master data management with governance. I am the first engineer in my family and turned to software engineering after circumstances prevented pursuing medicine like my mother. Data is an asset that helps quantify profits and losses, which influenced my career retention in data. I have 20 years in data overall with 5 years as director. I conduct workshops, client interviews, handle strategy, financial measures, and platform maintenance. I mentor a team of 18 and was co-chair for Women in Tech at Charlotte location.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Your career is in your hand. Do not rely on anybody to make your career or move or grow. If you feel there is an opportunity you would like to explore, go ahead and proceed without asking.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Commitment is really important. Initially hopping will not make any sense. Exploration is very important. Do not stick with one tool or technology. Explore as much as you can to become a jack of all trades, master of none. This helps at leadership positions where hands-on work decreases but broad knowledge makes your profile more versatile.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Honesty and trust relationships are most important in both work and personal life. Transparency, openness, proactiveness, and flexibility help everything go streamlined. Communicate early about failures or issues to resolve situations, and avoid learning things at the last minute.
