About Sonam
Sonam Tiwari has built a career in finance spanning approximately 10 years, beginning with a role at Morgan Stanley focused on derivatives and basic reconciliation tasks. She advanced to Trafigura, one of the world's largest commodity trading companies, where she collaborated closely with traders to generate profits for the firm, including contributing to around 1 million in profit. After moving to the United States in 2024 following her marriage, she completed a Master's degree in Finance from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth while starting a family, and she now works at Actualize Consulting in Keller, Texas. In her current client-facing position, she helps automate manual treasury processes using systems that leverage AI to improve efficiency. Sonam attributes her professional success to the strong support from her parents and husband, and she values ethical practices and maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

01What do you attribute your success to?
My success is attributed to the support from my parents and especially my husband, who helped me balance interviews, exams, projects, and childcare right after having my son.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice is to maintain a good work-life balance to perform better and be more productive, giving yourself space and breaks even while growing.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Try to learn a lot, ask questions to understand why things happen in every process, and don't question if you are good enough if something is complicated - just keep doing it and you'll get there.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
There are many opportunities for treasury management systems to grow with AI, automating manual processes like logging into multiple banks, as seen in systems like Kariba and GTreasury.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Being ethical is very important, as you cannot take shortcuts or be messy; doing the work diligently saves time and makes life easier in the future.
