Sonia S. Panshi is a filmmaker, actor, screenwriter, and producer whose work integrates cinematic storytelling with psychological insight. She is a Doctoral Candidate in Psychology whose creative practice is informed by an academic foundation in human behavior, allowing her to develop narratives that are both emotionally resonant and intellectually structured. Her work operates within what she defines as “Clinical Cinema,” a storytelling approach that examines the complexities of identity, trauma, relationships, and transformation through a psychologically grounded lens. With a professional footprint spanning New York, Mumbai, Los Angeles, and Malaysia, she brings a global perspective to contemporary film and media production.

Her career in the film industry spans more than 12 years, beginning with early modeling experience and formal acting training at the New York Film Academy, where she studied acting and developed a strong foundation in screen performance. She further refined her craft at the Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute, graduating with distinction in Method Acting, which deepened her command of character embodiment and emotional authenticity. She later relocated to India to actively pursue her acting career and has since worked within the Indian film industry, building a diverse body of performance work across culturally rich and narrative-driven projects. Over time, her career evolved from performance-based roles into creative leadership, marking a deliberate transition from interpreting direction to shaping and guiding the full creative vision.

Since 2023, Sonia has expanded her practice into full-scale filmmaking, where she now writes, develops characters, directs productions, and leads projects through her creative ventures. This evolution reflects a significant professional transformation, allowing her to unify her expertise in performance, psychology, and narrative construction. She holds academic credentials in filmmaking and writing, including a BS/BA from the Los Angeles Film School, as well as a psychology certification from the Touro School of Health Sciences BayShore. As an active member of writers’ and directors’ organizations, she continues to balance her dual identity as both actor and filmmaker—two disciplines she views as inseparable and essential to her creative voice—while developing globally oriented, psychologically driven cinema through her production work.

Q

What do you attribute your success to?

My success is built entirely on hard work and raw passion. I believe that you cannot achieve meaningful goals without a willingness to put in the hours and execute the grind, but it is the passion that truly fuels that effort. When you care deeply about what you are creating or building, the hard work doesn't just feel like labor - it becomes a purposeful pursuit that keeps you moving forward even when the process gets demanding.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Whatever you want in life , Fight for it.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

You have to be Ambitious , Patient, Passionate and Positive. This is the Mantra for clarity & confidence in a high stake Entertainment Industry.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge I am facing right now is getting everything organized so I can finally move forward with my story. Usually, writing comes easily to me, but because this specific project is so incredibly close to my heart, I find myself taking a lot more time with it. It is a deeply personal piece of work, and navigating that emotional closeness has slowed down my usual process, making the organization and execution feel like a much heavier lift than usual.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

My core values are loyalty, persistence, and maintaining a positive outlook. Loyalty is non-negotiable for me; it forms the foundation of how I treat the people around me and how I stay committed to my goals. Combined with persistence, it means I don't give up on the things or the people that matter to me, no matter how many obstacles get in the way. Keeping a positive mindset ties it all together, allowing me to look at setbacks not as permanent defeats, but as temporary hurdles I can overcome.
