Her Interview

Ten minutes with Soniya

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to consistency, resilience, and a willingness to keep learning. Every challenge has been an opportunity to grow, and I’ve never been afraid to step outside my comfort zone. I believe success isn’t about being perfect. It’s about showing up every day with purpose, adapting to change, and staying committed to your goals while lifting others along the way.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best advice I’ve received from my supervisor is: ‘Be known for your value, not just your title.’ Titles may change, but your character, work ethic, and the impact you make will always define your career. That advice has encouraged me to focus on continuous learning, solving problems, and creating meaningful results wherever I work.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Believe in your abilities before anyone else does. Build strong relationships, seek mentors, stay curious, and never stop learning. Most importantly, don’t compare your journey to someone else’s. Your unique perspective is your greatest strength. Be confident enough to use your voice and humble enough to keep learning. Ask questions, embrace feedback, and don’t be afraid to take calculated risks. Build a strong support network and remember that every successful woman once started exactly where you are today.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

In laboratory medicine, one of the biggest opportunities is the rapid pace of innovation and technology, which is transforming the way we work and create value.  As technology continues to advance, there’s also a tremendous opportunity to innovate, embrace automation, and improve patient outcomes. I believe our profession will continue to play an even greater role in shaping the future of healthcare, and it’s exciting to be part of that journey.

At the same time, staying adaptable and continuously upskilling is a challenge because industries evolve so quickly. I see this as an exciting opportunity to embrace lifelong learning, encourage diversity of thought, and create solutions that have a meaningful impact on people and communities.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Integrity, empathy, and excellence are the values that guide me. I believe in doing the right thing, even when no one is watching, treating people with respect and kindness, and always striving to deliver my best. I also value balance because success is most meaningful when it comes alongside strong relationships, good health, and personal growth.
