Her Story

About Sonja

I specialize in factoring, which is a niche financial product that helps small to mid-sized businesses raise capital by financing their accounts receivables. To simplify it, companies in various industries sell their invoices to a factoring company to receive payment for completed work or orders ahead of time, instead of waiting 60, 90 plus days to receive payment from their customer. Factoring comes in and pays them ahead of time at a small fee. I got my MBA with a concentration in finance, so I was very curious about anything finance-related. I was working for a large transportation company when they just started a factoring company, and little by little I fell in love with it. It was an interesting mix of boring finance and the dynamic industry that we're serving, which is the transportation industry. I just started with a holding company, and we just opened up Auros Capital, a newer company we started a few months ago. I'm very lucky to be able to stand behind the brand, company, and product that I have today.

01What do you attribute your success to?

I think a big part of it is just the fact that I played sports back in the day, and with sports, obviously the discipline is something that's given, and that never leaves your set of values. With sport, there's never enough, there's never enough wins, never enough improvements. All you find out is that your body can do more and better, but you never manage to achieve that pinnacle. But what I also learned later on is you have to believe in what you do. You really do have to believe and have passion for it. We think that it's only the great people that are finding cures or changing the trajectory of the planet or humanity, but it's really not. We can find passion in delivering value to our coworkers, to our clients, to everything that we do on a daily basis. I realized that those two, when they come together, they create a success story. That's a win when you put the discipline and the passion together, because without the passion, there's nothing. I'm very lucky to be able to stand behind the brand, company, and the product that I have today. That is a very great feeling that I didn't realize how much value should be attributed to in the past.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My best advice for young women getting started out, not necessarily just starting out in this industry but any other industry, would be to trust their judgment, do their research, and not just follow the footsteps of everyone around them blindly. Find a way to find a place where their skills translate and create most value, both for them and for whatever company, client, or whomever is on the other end of that table. So, to not just follow the easy path and look around at what everyone else is doing, but to seek for the better answers and better paths within themselves.
