Her Interview

Ten minutes with Sonji

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would attribute my success to my parents and of course God. I give all the glory to God for everything. I had a lot of challenges growing up with 10 brothers and sisters, divorce and things like that, but God has definitely had His hand on me the whole time even when I didn't know Him.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've received is to never give up, get training in all aspects and skills, learn about people and money, and have a why. Know what you're passionate about and get involved with something you're passionate about because it has to be more than the product and for a change. The money will come later.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My best advice would be to get all the facts, study, and never give up. When I first started I was so shy that if you asked me my name I would start crying, but I had a mentor who became the number one earner in Mary Kay and she motivated me. Start to earn while you learn.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge is definitely discipline, especially for someone who is more introverted but has gifts that require being extroverted. Sometimes it could be finances or medical issues. Learning is always a challenge and we all come with different fears. Being able to get over your fears by just doing it anyway is where you grow.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Definitely my values are God first, family second, my career third.
