What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to the inspiration and example set by my mother, Judy Smith, who was a principal. Her dedication to education motivated me to pursue a career in this field and instilled in me the values of leadership, commitment, and a passion for learning.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve ever received is to stay true to my beliefs, maintain my integrity, and find your purpose.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would tell young women to strive to be a servant leader who empowers others and cultivates new leaders. Always understand that it takes teamwork to be successful. Be resilient and lead with confidence.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges I see in education today is the increasing focus on business metrics, strict deadlines, and limited funding. These pressures often overshadow the quality of the learning experience for students and the professional growth of teachers, making it difficult to prioritize meaningful education over state and federal demands.
