About Sophia
Sophia Hernandez is currently a student at the University of Texas. She has been interning and working in the fields of education and law for approximately one and a half years. In her current role as an assistant for the county attorney in Crane, Texas, Sophia supports the office with administrative work, drafting motions, reviewing case evidence, and managing front desk responsibilities. She frequently provides translation services between Spanish and English during client meetings and court proceedings, and she translates intake forms and contracts into Spanish to better serve the community.
Prior to this position, Sophia gained experience through various educational and nonprofit roles. She worked as a part-time after-school teacher at Magellan International School, a bilingual institution where she led lesson plans in Spanish. She also volunteered with Girl Start and SEAL, serving as a reading tutor to help improve children's literacy. An internship at Dress for Success in San Antonio, Texas, allowed her to work closely with immigrant and underprivileged communities, which, along with her volunteer work at Casa Marianela, deepened her interest in law and immigration issues.
Sophia is preparing to participate in the UTNY program in New York and is actively seeking an internship in law, education, or nonprofit work during her time there. Her passion for creating positive change and ensuring equal treatment for all people drives her pursuit of a career in law.

The best career advice I'd ever received was to never say no. And to always say yes, even if the opportunity seems completely irrelevant, because you never know what might be something that you are actually interested in.
