Her Story

About Sophia

Sophia Lattimore owns Chosen Travel LLC, which she founded in 2019 as an accredited travel management company offering both leisure and corporate travel services. Prior to entrepreneurship, she dedicated 30 years to the federal government, culminating in a leadership position at Indian Health Services where she oversaw more than 106 organizational administrators and provided guidance to senior executives. Her professional development includes leadership training through the Federal Executive Institute in Charlottesville, Virginia, as part of its final graduating class, along with 120 semester hours of college coursework that began with a BSN program at UMKC. She is a member of the Churches of God in Christ and supports her church's non-profit efforts to create scholarship opportunities for first-time college students. Lattimore attributes her success to her faith in Jesus Christ, a mindset of faith over fear, and a commitment to helping her staff succeed while building generational wealth and educational access for others.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Sophia

01What do you attribute your success to?

I am a true believer of Jesus Christ. I tell myself faith over fear. My drive is helping my staff to be successful, leaving a generation of wealth for my children and grandchildren, and creating scholarship opportunities.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Keep your head up and you can do it. From mentor: before you go into a meeting or presentation, have your talking points and notes available.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Believe in yourself. Don't take rejection personally. Take on huge challenges even if scary. Make yourself unique. Don't be like everybody else. Not only do you belong at the table, create a new boardroom and own the table.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Competing against larger companies like Expedia and Book.com as a small minority-owned business. Need to be stronger, more knowledgeable, and resourceful. Focus on building systems, technology, and supplier partnerships.
