Her Story
About Sophia
I studied environmental economics and sustainable business at UC Berkeley, which led me to be passionate about social and environmental impact work. I joined Morivia, a startup in the sustainable finance space that uses AI to help accelerate catalytic capital. I work at the Accelerator Foundation Capital in San Francisco's financial district, where I have calls with investors and clients while balancing my studies. I've worked for the Haas Business School for the Office of Sustainability and Climate change, and I've been a student advisor to the Center for Responsible Business. I'm a member of Scholars of Finance, and these are all groups that helped me grow as a person excited about how to reimagine capitalism and how to integrate sustainability into business and financial markets. I did a program with Skydeck, Berkeley's startup accelerator, called Accelerating Careers and Entrepreneurship, which helped me get into the startup space where I'm now working.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
To always kind of iterate as the times change. I'm particularly thinking about AI, but working for a startup has really taught me the importance of always evolving with the newest information, whether it's for how to be more impactful with your work or how to redesign your business model. Don't be afraid of change, you know? Just break the old system you have and create a new one. It's always gonna leave you better off, and it kind of can help build momentum. Like, don't get stagnant.
