Sophie Youngs is a Strategic Learning Architect who leads initiatives to train and support educators and colleagues in implementing accessible, purposeful learning environments. With a career in education beginning in 2010, Sophie transitioned into the edtech space in 2022 after becoming a district-level specialist during the COVID-19 pandemic. Her innovative work using digital tools to support learners—especially those with disabilities—caught the company's attention and ultimately led her to join the team. Sophie is particularly passionate about Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and ensuring students with ADHD, autism, and learning differences can thrive in inclusive, tech-enhanced classrooms. Sophie holds two master's degrees in instructional design & technology and in digital media, new literacies, & learning, and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Education in Leadership with a focus on Instructional Technology at the American College of Education. She credits mentors like Dr. Deb Hemler and Dr. Vicky Cline for helping her embrace her neurodivergent identity and leadership capabilities. Outside of work, Sophie is a proud mom to two boys with autism, an advocate for mental health and equity in education, and deeply committed to helping educators feel empowered and supported. Whether it's through speaking engagements or personalized coaching, Sophie is driven by one mission: Designing for the edges so the whole herd thrives.

Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I'd attribute it to a combination of relentless curiosity and incredible mentorship. My drive and work ethic are my own. Still, my path was truly ignited by mentors like Dr. Deb Hemler, who sparked my passion for technology integration, and Dr. Vicky Cline, who showed me the profound impact of transformational, servant leadership. They didn't just guide me in my studies and work; they taught me how to channel my 'why' into my future.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Not received but given. "Ask the question." It's the most powerful and most overlooked advice. In a field that can be resistant to change, asking "why?" or "what if?" is the antidote to stagnation. Questions are the engine of clarity, the path to understanding, and the root of all inquiry. It's the foundation of leading with curiosity, and it's how we find and unlock new possibilities.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Anchor yourself in your 'why' and lead with curiosity. Don't chase a title; chase your purpose. In this field, you will meet resistance. Your passion is what will fuel you, and your curiosity—your willingness to ask the question—is what will light the path forward. Titles change, but your purpose is the only career anchor that truly holds.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge and the most significant opportunity are the same: Artificial Intelligence. The challenge is that many see it as a threat or a shortcut, which risks widening the equity gap for students who need the most support. The opportunity—and what I'm passionate about—is to reframe AI as the ultimate tool for personalization and accessibility. Our job as learning architects is to lead this effort, ensuring that AI is used to support educators and create truly individualized, inclusive pathways for learners who the "one-size-fits-all" model has left behind.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

This is an easy one, as my personal and professional values align: Inclusion, Empathy, and Accessibility. This isn't just a professional philosophy for me; it's profoundly personal. As a mom to two amazing boys with autism, I am a fierce advocate for a world that builds for all learners, not just some. My work is to ensure that every single person—in a classroom or a boardroom—feels seen, supported, and empowered with a clear path to success. That is my non-negotiable.
