Her Interview

Ten minutes with Sophie

01What do you attribute your success to?

My older brother is the co-CEO of this company, and so having a lot of trust within the team has allowed me to step out and try new things. I feel very free to just continually learn and also asking others who are in a similar industry. So getting business coaching and advice from other people who've been trying to set up systems and grow their business has been huge.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Don't be afraid to take a risk. Be willing to step out and try something new, because you don't need to understand or know something right off the bat. You're gonna learn and grow into the role. And then be willing to learn. Be someone who wants to ask questions, wants to grow, because that's gonna ultimately be the most important thing on a team.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Really apply yourself, and be willing to ask questions. Find the thing that you really care about, and spend the time to grow the skill of whatever that might be, so that you can be utilized and you can benefit the team that you'll join.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

For personal work, not having a direct manager and being entrepreneurial and self-starting is a challenge. In the home building industry, stepping into bigger projects like full home builds brings more risk, requiring cost and risk analysis. Opportunity is that renovating is on the rise as people stay in homes and want renewal.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Following Jesus is the most important thing in my life, and that influences the way that I love and serve the people around me, but then also influences the way that I want to work hard, want to produce a good product, be a good employee, be a good coworker. Being able to bring redemption to the business environment by allowing people to know that they matter.
