Her Interview
Ten minutes with Sophie
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to always approaching my career with a clear sense of purpose: improving the lives of older adults. I’ve also made it a priority to stay curious, ask thoughtful questions, and learn from those around me, especially leaders whose strengths and experiences differ from my own. That willingness to continually learn and grow has shaped me into the leader I am today and continues to push me to become better.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've received is to never become so comfortable that you stop growing. Be willing to ask questions, seek feedback, and surround yourself with people who challenge you to be better. Some of the greatest opportunities in my career have come from being willing to step outside of my comfort zone and take on something new before I felt completely ready.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
We need compassionate, strong women who genuinely care about serving older adults to enter this field. My advice is to trust your abilities, make your voice heard, and never be afraid to advocate for your residents or your ideas. Surround yourself with strong women who inspire and support you, build a supportive professional network, and pursue opportunities even when you don't feel completely ready. You don't have to know everything to have something valuable to contribute.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the greatest opportunities in senior living is continuing to evolve alongside the expectations of today’s older adults. Residents want more than a place to live; they want meaningful experiences, connection, choice, and a true sense of community. Our challenge is to continue raising the standard while balancing exceptional hospitality, compassionate service, and strong operations. I believe that creates an incredible opportunity to redefine what senior living can be and positively impact the way people experience aging.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Integrity is the foundation of everything I do. I believe in doing the right thing, even when it isn't the easiest thing, and treating people with compassion, respect, and kindness. I strive to bring my best to the people who depend on me, both personally and professionally, and to surround myself with positive, trustworthy people who share those same values.
