About Soundarya
Soundarya Balasubramani is a writer based in San Francisco, California. She previously worked as a product manager before quitting her job to become a writer. She has been publishing her work for eight years. Between 2014 and 2022 she wrote over 100 articles covering physics, astronomy, education, career topics, and product management. She published her first book in 2020 and has since released two books total while recently completing her third, the novel Thousand Days of Love. All of her articles and books are available on her site Curious Maverick. She moved to San Francisco six years ago from a conservative background in India.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I don't think it's easy to make a living as a writer. However, if people are willing to pair it with other skills such as learning to build a community both online and offline, learning to confidently promote your work and not shy away from that aspect of writing, and also learning to ask for money, which is a very hard thing to do. Besides honing their craft, if they truly want their work to get out there, it is important that they also focus on these other traits which are all learned traits.
