Her Story

About Sravanthi

I am currently serving as Financial Deputy Lead at Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Accounts, where I've been for almost 7 months. I'll be hitting 20 years in the IT profession by this year. I recently transitioned from being a module lead to a role where I can oversee all the finance modules. My previous position was Cardinal AR lead, but I also acted as a backup lead in procurement and project accounting modules - all finance modules. In my new position, I manage a team of almost 20 people who are currently serving as module leads to support their own modules. I get regular status updates from them and track dates accordingly, as we have a deployment planned this September. We have another project simultaneously going on, so we have to make sure that the upgrade work is also going well and aligns with the dates we put together. My most remarkable achievement was when I served as a security automation lead during the HCM implementation back in 2022. We automated the security for almost 200 agencies, avoiding the manual task of providing security to 100-plus users. That was a huge success and got me recognized, and probably laid out a way for me to where I am today. I hold a Bachelor's of Engineering in Production Engineering, which I did back in India. After I was done with my Bachelor's, I was placed into Oracle, and then Accenture, and then now I'm serving as a consultant.

Ten minutes with Sravanthi

01What do you attribute your success to?

The quality that I would like to highlight to make me successful is the quality of sharing knowledge. Not everybody will have the tendency to share their knowledge they have to other people. Even in my current place, I have the tendency to help people. It is not because I will lose that knowledge, or somebody will take over my position. I never had that feeling, but I am very proud to share knowledge that I have, and I always been very helpful to people who actually needed that support in order to accomplish the work in the deadline that we wanted to meet. I always had good opportunities - it is not just you who work hard. If you want to grow, there has to be somebody who would provide you the opportunity to prove yourself. Working hard is not enough, but the people who recognize the hard work is also very important for the career growth.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Speak more. I am basically not a person who would highlight my work very often. I am a doer rather than a speaker, so my challenge would be to speak up for myself, which I did not do, and that actually held me up in showcasing my work. Though I work hard, though I finish everything in time, though I deliver everything with highest quality, I never stood up for myself to showcase my work. I think now, with my current role, I am overcoming that challenge.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would suggest anybody who is willing to contribute toward their goals, I want them to dream big. I never stop dreaming.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I am basically not a person who would highlight my work very often. I am a doer rather than a speaker, so my challenge would be to speak up for myself, which I did not do, and that actually held me up in showcasing my work. Though I work hard, though I finish everything in time, though I deliver everything with highest quality, I never stood up for myself to showcase my work. So that is one challenge that I have faced. I think now, with my current role, I am overcoming that challenge.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

You need to be responsible, so for any work that you have agreed to do, you need to take up that responsibility to finish that in the great timeline. If you are not able to finish that in the time, it is good to communicate that ahead of time, rather than waiting till the tail end. And then the other thing is hard work. So, if you want to achieve something, you really have to put some time, and you need to work hard towards to achieve your goal.
